Cobalt: Reproductive Healthcare Including Abortion

Cobalt and the Coloradans for Protecting Reproductive Freedom Campaign are seeking to protect abortion rights from government interference in the Colorado Constitution (proposed Initiative 89. For the initiative's language, please see below). The official launch of the 2024 campaign in Denver was Monday, January 22 (in honor of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision) on the west steps of the State Capitol. Campaign leaders must collect approximately 125,000 signatures by the end of April to to make it on the November ballot. In a kickoff rally on the Colorado Capitol steps, organizers asked for volunteers to help with the effort.

TEXT of PROPOSED COLORADO INITIATIVE 89:

Section 2. In the constitution of the state of Colorado, add section 32 to Article II as follows: Section 32. ABORTION. THE RIGHT TO ABORTION IS HEREBY RECOGNIZED. GOVERNMENT SHALL NOT DENY, IMPEDE, OR DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE EXERCISE OF THAT RIGHT, INCLUDING PROHIBITING HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR ABORTION.
