About the Role
GBCA is looking for a Communications Manager to lead our storytelling, brand voice, and public-facing communications strategy. You'll be the person translating our policy work, member stories, and events into content that moves people. This is a great role for someone who wants their communications work to directly support small business advocacy and equity-focused policy change.
What You'll Do
Develop and execute GBCA and GBC's overall communications strategy across email, social media, website, and press
Write and edit content including videos, podcasts, newsletters, blog posts, social media, press releases, and event materials
Maintain and evolve GBCA and GBC's brand voice across all platforms
Own and grow GBCA and GBC's social media presence across platforms, with a clear focus on increasing engagement, followers, and reach over time
Develop and execute a social media content strategy, including content calendars, campaigns, and platform-specific approaches grounded in what our community cares about and what's actually driving engagement
Collaborate with program staff to translate complex advocacy work into clear, compelling public messaging
Track communications performance (open rates, engagement, reach) and adjust strategy based on what's working
Manage relationships with media contacts and support press outreach as needed
Manage/support GBCA's website content and member platform content and updates
What You Bring
Passion for small business, economic equity, and/or public policy
2–4+ years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field
Strong writing, video and content skills with the ability to adapt tone across formats and audiences
Demonstrated experience growing social media engagement — we're looking for someone who can point to specific results (follower growth, engagement rate increases, campaign performance) from past roles
Strong understanding of platform-specific best practices (LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) and how to adapt content and tone accordingly
Comfort using analytics tools to track performance and adjust strategy based on what's resonating with audiences
Experience managing email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, ActionNetwork, or similar)
Comfort working independently and managing multiple projects/deadlines
Basic design skills (Canva, Adobe, or similar)
Experience with CRM or membership databases
