Meet our Board : Laura Morocco
At Good Business Colorado, our board members are more than advisors, they're small business owners, advocates, and connectors who bring real-world experience to everything we do. In this series, we're sitting down with some of the people shaping GBC's direction to learn what drives them, what they're hoping to build for Colorado's small business community, and a little bit about who they are outside of the workspace.
First up: Laura Morocco, founder of The Monday Lab and a self-described dance mom navigating the world of ballet after a former life in punk bands. With a background spanning private and public food and beverage, state government, and local nonprofits, Laura brings a sharp understanding of where small businesses and microbusinesses often get overlooked — and a clear vision for how GBC can change that.
Read on to hear her thoughts on building stronger local supply chains, growing GBC's reach into new sectors, and why speculative fiction might be the secret to redesigning better systems.
1. What drew you to join our board, and why does this work matter to you personally?
Before starting my business in 2022, I worked across the board in private and public food and beverage, state government, and local nonprofits. Through those experiences, I realized how often small businesses, microbusinesses, and solopreneurs get left out of key legislative discussions. I joined the Colorado business community to change that. GBC’s values mirror my own, and I’m excited to leverage my background to champion our members and drive real progress.
2. What do you hope to see for small business owners,in the next few years? (Or what do you hope to see for GBCA in the near future?
My vision for the next few years is to build stronger ecosystems, local supply chains networks and support systems across Colorado’s small business network. I would love to see GBC/A play a role in securing dedicated funding so microbusinesses can gain stability, expand operations, and create sustainable local jobs. I’m also eager to help grow our membership in key sectors like tech, agriculture, healthcare, and tourism.
3. Outside of board work, what's something people might be surprised to learn about you?
Outside of business and advocacy, I moonlight as a dance mom to my two daughters at Belliston Academy. (As a former punk band kid, navigating the ballet world is a wild new ride!). If you need fundraiser Butter Braids or discounted Nutcracker tickets around Thanksgiving, hit me up. Please!
On a more personal note, I challenge my strategic thinking by reading a lot of speculative fiction. It’s my favorite way to imagine how we can redesign systems for a more equitable, forward-thinking future. Send me your book recommendations!
